The Final Assignment!

Hi everyone,
This week's assignment will be the last one you will have to do for English class! This blog assignment is to write about the advantages and disadvantages of using blogs in the English classroom. The essay should be a minimum of 300 words. Here are some more guidelines for your essay, per the June 13th post on the blog simonslost.blogspot.com:

The main text of the essay has three main parts:

An introduction
A main body
A conclusion

I. The introduction.
The introduction consists of two parts:
It should include a few general statements about the subject to provide a background to your essay and to attract the reader’s attention. It should try to explain why you are writing the essay. It may include a definition of terms in the context of the essay, etc.
It should also include a statement of the specific subdivisions of the topic and/or indication of how the topic is going to be tackled in order to specifically address the question.
It should introduce the central idea or the main purpose of the writing.

II. The main body.
The main body consists of one or more paragraphs of ideas and arguments. Each paragraph develops a subdivision of the topic. The paragraphs of the essay contain the main ideas and arguments of the essay together with illustrations or examples. The paragraphs are linked in order to connect the ideas. The purpose of the essay must be made clear and the reader must be able to follow its development.

III. The conclusion.
The conclusion includes the writer’s final points.
It should recall the issues raised in the introduction and draw together the points made in the main body and explain the overall significance of the conclusions. What general points can be drawn from the essay as a whole?
It should clearly signal to the reader that the essay is finished and leave a clear impression that the purpose of the essay has been achieved.

IMPORTANT: ALL BLOG ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE DONE BY NEXT THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND. NO ASSIGNMENT WRITTEN AFTER THIS DATE WILL BE COUNTED.

Assignment 5 - Evaluate a classmate's blog

Hi everyone,
The blog assignment for this week is to write an evaluation or criticism of a classmate's blogspot. You could say why you like/dislike it, or list the strong points and the weak points. It would be a good idea to leave a comment on your favorite (or least favorite) post. You could also talk about design, layout, colors, photos, links, etc. (Minimum of 200 words).

Hi everyone,
This week's blog assignment is to write about what you did during the Fiestas Patrias. Please write at least 170 words. Feel free to include pictures of the things you did. Second Assignment: Career-Related Article Summary

Hi Everyone,
This week's assignment is to go online and find an article related to your career which you have never read. One option is to visit http://www.unesco.org/shs/shsdc/journals/shsjournals.html
and select an article from this database. After reading the article, write a summary of it on your blog. Make sure you include the title of the article and the name of the author in your summary. Let me know if you have any questions.

This week's blog assignment is to create a link to a website you enjoy visiting. Then, write about why you enjoy it. Also, discuss how often you visit it and how long you have known about it (about 100 words).

Class Location - Thursday, May 28

Class tonight will be in our regular classroom - the English lab in the Artes Faculty. The sit-in ended earlier this week, so we can move back in.

Hi everyone,
The class tonight, and therefore the test, will not take place in the lab in the Facultad de Artes. Instead, class will be held in Sala Multimedia 2 in the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales. I still am not sure about where our class on Thursday will be, so please check this blog for updates. Good luck on the exam!

Class Update

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry this is late notice. I have been trying to find a room where we can have class tonight, but apparently there is nothing available. Our normal classroom is inaccessible because of the sit-in going on in the Artes faculty. So, as of right now we will not be having class tonight. Assignment 6 - Summary Writing

Hi everyone,
This week's assignment is to look for a short article (1 to 2 pages) connected to your studies. Read it and then make a summary of it (100-120 words). For ideas on how to write a summary and to look at a sample summary, check out: http://homepage.smc.edu/reading_lab/writing_a_summary.htm

If you can't find an adequate career-related text on the internet, you can write about a book you have read during this term in any other courses related to your career.

This post must be done by June 11th. This post is the most important for your grade and will be reviewed for your use of language. If you have any questions, let me know. Alright, take care!

Assignment 5 - Interesting career-related topic

Hey everyone,
This week's assignment is to select a career-related subject or topic which you have been studying this semester. It should be something you have liked or found really interesting. In your post, you should generally describe the subject or topic and describe what you have done or learnt about it so far. Then, talk about what else you would like to know about this topic and explain what attracted your interest in it. Finally, find two websites connected to this topic and include links to them in your post. (There is a link button at the top of the post screen so that you can include links directly in your post).

Also, remember that for the two assignments prior to this one, you were supposed to look at each others' blogs and leave comments for different reasons. If you haven't already done so, please take a moment to complete this aspect of the previous assignments.

Assignment 3 - Recommended Web Sites in my Area

Hi everyone,
This week´s assignment is to look for good websites in English connected to your area of study. Pick 2 or 3, and then explain why you have selected them and create a link on your blog to the websites. Next, visit the blogs of other people in your class (the list of blogs for our class is on my blog), and check out the websites they have linked. Then, write comments on the blogs of a couple of students whose websites you found interesting. I´m looking forward to seeing which websites you decide to link. Let me know if you have questions. Hi guys,
Now that you have written an introductory post, we will move on to our next assignment. This week, you will be posting the lyrics of a song in English that you like. Introduction

Hey! My name is Chelsea Osenbaugh and I am an English teacher at the University of Chile in Santiago. This blog is part of a project I am doing with my students in my level 3 classes at the university. The project involves describing interests - both personal and professional - in English. From now on, students who miss a class can check this blog for their next blog assignments and any class updates. Feel free to post any questions or comments on my site.
